So I just did a pretty quick little shoot-out on the X7000 (RS500) between UHD, MadVR and Bluray up-scaled on the Panasonic (With my usual sharpening settings applied).
Suffice it to say, I did not expect to see what I saw when I got these images on the computer and had a look at the Panasonic Bluray shots vs MadVR. The Panasonic damn well holds its own, and looks sharper in a few shots than MadVR, however what I can also see is some shots on the Panasonic look overcooked. I think all the MadVR shots actually look closer to the UHD shots in fine cinematic detail, that is to say, they are not overly sharpened too much, but still have a lot of fine details.
For a lot of you, the Panasonic is a truly excellent up-scaler, I would not be thinking I was missing much if I were not using an HTPC that's for sure, so some of you guys should rest easy. I for one though, will continue to use my HTPC, as I do actually prefer the MadVR shots in a lot of cases, but damn, these got so friggen close I actually started wondering if I hit the 3k resolution limit on the JVC's or I didn't photograph them quite as well as I could have.
Note, there is some extremely fine posterisation in some parts of these images, but that is my camera, and compression from JPEG, So, pay a little less attention to the gradients. This posterisation is not there in real life.
All the Bluray shots are up-scaled to 4K from the Panasonic player. Sharpness settings for UHD and BR on the Panasonic are:
High Freq +3
Med Freq +1
Edge Correction +1
MadVR settings are vanilla NGU Very High Super-sampling. The settings can be found in my sig. Now, I should be able to push the sharpness a lot harder if I wish. I honestly think what I have is perfect though. Some of these Panasonic shots certainly look sharper! But some also have far more noise and look flatter than the MadVR shots. I didn't really have time to get shots of the Panasonic with the sharpening off, or Medium Freq sharpness off (I actually think this is a good idea to turn off now to reduce these artefacts).

I've found the source of my problem, i was using lav in native and not in copy-back, now (cb) it is possible to use color & gamma setting to adjust 10bit output mode.
Thank you now all is perfect
DXVA2 Native is the best if it works because it uses the least resources and power. DXVA2 Copy-Back and CUVID are the next best options for hardware acceleration, especially if you want to use MadVR (which doesn't work with LAV DXVA2 Native).
