I have it all set and calibrated yesterday.
After playing with it for a few hours I thought i'd give my first impressions:
1) The colours are Amazing! My last 2 projectors were the Optoma DW318 and the Optoma 131Xe, and compared the those two colours are so much better
2) As too are the Black Levels and contrast levels. When watching Gravity on the 131Xe, I thought the black levels were decent and you could see the stars against the blackness of the space and the white space suits were looked good. When watching it on the HD36, the blacks of space are much much MUCH deeper, but the main stand out difference was that there were so many more stars you could see in the background. Space was full of them. This was completely missed out on the HD131xe
3) Watching it in the daytime was fine. The colours remained quite strong. The extra lumens are defiantly noticeable and a big plus point, more than I imagined.
4) Watching Gravity in 3D the picture was smooth, clear and bright. I thought that the Optoma 131Xe struggled a bit with the faster scenes in 3D, I actually found it hurting my eyes in some scenes. So far with the HD36 this isn't the case. It actually feels "comfortable" watching 3D. A big improvement!
5) The noise! So much noise! The fan is LOUD! They definitely were creative when they said it was at 27Db. I actually found the fan noise quite disturbing when using the projector, and I have only tried it in ECO mode! I found the DW318 and HD131Xe very quiet, I only really heard the fan when shutting down! But the HD36 is like a hover! I'm almost considering returning it on this point alone. I dont mind a bit of noise, but i think this is a bit ridiculous!
I hope this helps give you guys of what to expect with this projector. It is a seriously good projector, just the fan noise which is a bit of a concern!
